Senior AI Business Analyst - Operations

Banyan SoftwareToronto, ON
CA$130,000 - CA$170,000Hybrid

About The Position

Banyan Software is seeking a Senior Business Analyst, AI & Data Science to act as an embedded business partner for one of their internal functional teams (Finance, M&A, Business Development, Human Resources, Legal, or Operations). The role involves understanding the team's workflows, identifying AI and data science opportunities, and implementing solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. The position reports to the central AI & Data Science team, working closely with both functional leaders and technical AI/data resources. This hybrid role combines the functions of an AI strategist, a data science translator, and an operations partner, all applied within the assigned functional vertical.

Requirements

  • 6 to 10 years of experience in roles such as business analyst, strategy consultant, FP&A or finance analyst, BD or M&A analyst, product manager, or data science partner.
  • At least 3 years of experience involving AI, ML, or data science work.
  • A bachelor's degree in a quantitative, business, or technical field.
  • Working knowledge of machine learning concepts, model evaluation, data quality, and the limitations of AI.
  • Strong comfort with SQL.
  • Working familiarity with Python or R for data exploration.
  • Proficiency in Excel and modern BI tools (Looker, Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Strong financial and business acumen, with the ability to build a credible business case and explain it clearly.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining models to executives and translating executive questions into analysis or model requirements.
  • A track record of being trusted by non-technical functional teams.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, judgment, and humility.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree.
  • Direct experience inside Finance, M&A, or Business Development.
  • Experience in software, SaaS, or vertical market software environments.
  • Hands-on work with LLMs, retrieval systems, or agentic workflows applied to internal operations.
  • Prior experience as an embedded analyst or business partner, rather than part of a fully centralized analytics team.
  • A track record of measuring AI or data science ROI in production, not just in pilots.

Responsibilities

  • Embed inside an assigned function (Finance, M&A, Business Development, Human Resources, Legal, or Operations) to understand its data, systems, KPIs, and pain points.
  • Identify and prioritize AI and data science opportunities that impact the function's metrics, sequencing them by impact, effort, and risk.
  • Build clear, ROI-driven business cases for each opportunity, defining success metrics, sensitivities, and potential failure points.
  • Translate business problems into well-scoped requirements for AI and data science engineers, and interpret model/tool outputs into actionable decisions for the function.
  • Partner with the functional leader on roadmap and prioritization, guiding decisions on which work to pursue.
  • Drive adoption of AI and data tools within the function by training end-users, designing new workflows, and measuring outcomes.
  • Define and track KPIs for initiatives, including model performance, adoption, time saved, decision quality, and financial impact.
  • Stay current with AI and data science trends, including LLMs, agentic systems, and modern analytics tooling, and share insights with the team.
  • Share successful patterns and pitfalls with the broader AI & Data Science group to benefit other functional partners.
