About The Position

Rio Tinto’s Communications team is looking for a Senior Advisor, People Communication to join its team. This is a 15-month maternity leave replacement contract. During that period, the successful candidate will support communications for the entire Aluminum & Lithium product group, Canada, and the Montreal Hub. Reporting to the Director, Employee Communications, Aluminum & Lithium and Canada, and based in the Montreal Hub, this person will contribute to implementing strategies aimed at informing, mobilizing, and engaging employees, while ensuring the quality and effectiveness of communications through strong and consistent execution of initiatives.

Requirements

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Degree in communications or a related field
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in writing, project coordination, and communication tools production
  • Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec.
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Solid project coordination skills
  • Strong organizational skills, autonomy, and attention to detail
  • Creativity

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish would be an asset
  • Experience organizing events (virtual and in person)
  • Experience in large, complex organizations is an asset
  • Knowledge of Teams, Zoom, and other virtual event tools is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Implement communication plans supporting key People initiatives (e.g.: organizational transformation, employee engagement and retention, employer value proposition, inclusion and diversity, health and safety, etc.)
  • Provide guidance to teams on effective communication approaches
  • Ensure message consistency and alignment with communication standards
  • Coordinate communications across product groups for Canada-wide initiatives
  • Support the visibility of key initiatives and partnerships, including community engagement programs
  • Contribute to communication activities at the Montreal Hub, including social committee initiatives
  • Develop content and manage the production and distribution of communication tools (distribution lists, intranet, extranet, newsletters, Viva Engage, digital screens, etc.)
  • Monitor performance of initiatives and recommend practical improvements
