Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer - Thin Films

Honeywell•Minneapolis, MN
•$102,000 - $127,000

About The Position

Honeywell Aerospace's Thin Films Organization is seeking a Process Engineer with expertise in ion-beam deposition for optical films. The ideal candidate is also proficient in substrate cleaning processes and thin-film characterization methods. The role focuses on developing, optimizing, and making thin-film deposition processes manufacturable for high-volume production, while improving yield, uniformity, and product performance. The engineer will work with Design Engineering and Operations to implement processes and resolve manufacturing challenges, analyze process and product data, and define operating requirements for new deposition equipment. Candidates must be able to work in a cleanroom and have demonstrated thin-film characterization experience, along with SPC and DOE experience. The position requires an M.S. or Ph.D. in a specified engineering, materials science, or related STEM field, and 3+ years of experience or an advanced degree in an engineering discipline. Due to U.S. export-control requirements, candidates must qualify as a U.S. person: a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or person with protected status under asylum or refugee status. The annual base salary range is $102,000–$127,000. Honeywell Aerospace describes itself as an independent, publicly traded aerospace and defense company whose systems are on board 90% of the world's aircraft. The application period is estimated at 40 days from the posting date of 10/21/2026, but may change based on business needs and candidate availability.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a STEM-related field.
  • 3+ years of experience or an advanced degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in thin-film characterization.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined for U.S. export-control compliance: a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or person with protected status under asylum or refugee status.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamental knowledge of material properties and manufacturing methods for multilayered oxide films, ideally for optical components.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of surface chemistry and interactions between substrates and dielectric thin films in relevant plasma environments.
