Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, ideally within industrial or engineered-to-order environments.
  • Expert-level experience leading structured New Product Introduction (NPI) programs for complex systems.
  • Proven track record of owning NPI phase gate deliverables and driving cross-functional execution.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of fabrication, assembly, and large-scale industrial processes.
  • Exceptional shop-floor problem-solving skills and a history of successful high-stakes production launches.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in heavy industrial OEM environments such as aerospace, energy, or data center infrastructure.
  • Mastery of APQP, PPAP, or similar gated development frameworks.
  • Experience managing high-mix, low-volume (engineered-to-order) product portfolios.
  • Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Prior experience leading pilot builds and managing significant production ramps.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and own manufacturing deliverables across all NPI phase gates, from initial concept through global production release.
  • Define and audit manufacturing inputs (design maturity, BOM completeness, routings, tooling, capacity, quality plans) to ensure rigorous standards are met before gate advancement.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on manufacturing engineering during executive phase gate reviews, providing high-level risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Transform complex engineering designs into scalable, high-efficiency manufacturing strategies.
  • Design optimized line flows, takt assumptions, and sophisticated labor models for engineered-to-order environments.
  • Direct the development of validated manufacturing routings and process documentation, ensuring total alignment between design intent and cost targets.
  • Lead high-impact Design-for-Manufacturability (DFM) and Design-for-Assembly (DFA) initiatives early in the development cycle to drive down lifetime product costs.
  • Oversee manufacturing execution for complex prototype and pilot builds, serving as the lead technical problem-solver.
  • Drive systemic corrective actions for issues identified during early builds to prevent reoccurrence during production.
  • Validate multi-million-dollar tooling, equipment, and automated processes prior to scale.
  • Establish a Design for Excellence (DFX) system that fundamentally improves future design cycles and process standards.
  • Partner with Design Engineering leadership to influence product architecture and core technology decisions.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to strategically validate global supplier capability and capacity.
  • Coordinate with Quality and Operations to ensure seamless staffing, training, and inspection strategies are in place for launch.
  • Serve as an initial escalation point for manufacturing-related roadblocks during NPI execution.
  • Quantify and mitigate manufacturing risks related to process complexity and supply chain volatility.
  • Develop advanced cost models and provide data-driven recommendations for make/buy decisions.
  • Ensure a flawless formal handoff into Operations, remaining engaged post-launch to stabilize the ramp and mentor production teams.
