About The Position

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is seeking to hire an Administrative Support Specialist. Duties include promoting the department through print and digital media and materials, creating and overseeing the department newsletter, serving as backup for other administrative staff, acting as departmental receptionist, maintaining reservations of rooms and spaces, assisting with seminar-related activities, coordinating graduate student luncheons, assisting with fundraisers and departmental events, assisting with special projects, processing Facilities Management work orders, coordinating with the department and FCA IT department regarding computer equipment issues, monitoring and maintaining office equipment, maintaining inventory of office supplies and ordering when needed, and serving as a liaison for students and faculty. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) provides exceptional undergraduate and graduate programs. Faculty in the department conduct research in numerous areas. The Department of BMB’s mission is to add to and disseminate understanding of science related to the molecular basis of life in support of the missions of the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (DASNR) and OSU. It does so by contributing expertise to research endeavors, maintaining facilities and equipment, and providing training in molecular analysis of life processes.

Requirements

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • 2 years of customer service experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skill, interpersonal skills, detail orientated, and have effective time management.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Ability to learn OSU systems including Banner, Slate, Omni, and Canvas.

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • At least 2 years customer service and office experience.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the department through print and digital media and materials (e.g. swag). Print posters as needed. Keep department display case material up-to-date. Work with student organizations on fundraising and promotion; graphic design for affiliated organizations (e.g. OSSEF, AMGDB, student clubs).
  • Create and oversee department newsletter
  • Serve as backup for other administrative staff. Act as departmental receptionist; maintain reservations of rooms and spaces within the department. Assist with all seminar-related activities; coordinate graduate student luncheons with visiting speakers. Assist with fundraisers and departmental events, including awards banquet.
  • Assist with special projects for the department. Process Facilities Management work orders. Coordinate with department and FCA IT department regarding any computer equipment issues. Monitor and maintain office equipment. Maintain inventory of office supplies and orders when needed. Liaison for students and faculty. Other duties as assigned.
