POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Clerk performs high‑level administrative, operational, and logistical support to the Clerk or, in the absence of the Clerk, supports the Deputy Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners. This role serves as a key partner in ensuring efficient board operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of administrative experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted: Yes
  • May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
  • Notary or able to obtain within one (1) year of hire
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems using various computer systems, managing files and records.
  • Strong written communication skills suitable for official public records.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain summary minutes of all Board of County Commissioners meetings in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Transform notes into a formal, clear, and accurate written record for review and approval.
  • Review video and audio notes from meetings to prepare final minutes.
  • Provide administrative support to internal departmental staff
  • Respond to inquiries and resolves administrative issues that may arise
  • Record, compile, transcribe, and distribute minutes of meetings
  • Prepare written correspondence such as memos, emails, presentations, forms, and other documents
  • Coordinate meetings, interviews and assist with program preparation
  • Prepare, develop or maintain reports, manuals, or interview documents
  • Conducts moderately complex research.
  • Perform confidential data entry, create, organize and maintain files
  • Maintain supply levels and ordering stock
  • Use computers for various operations such as database management
  • Compose, type, and distribute meeting notes, agendas, routine correspondence, or reports, such as presentations or expense, statistical, or monthly reports
  • Provide back-up clerical support within division
