About The Position

This position is an exciting opportunity to drive strategy and execution as a member of CNA’s LTC Reserving and Finance team. The role is within a highly collaborative environment with key internal and external business partners to support the financial management associated with CNA’s Long-Term Care business. The Senior Actuarial Consultant will use their technical strengths, detail-oriented mindset, process excellence, and strong communication abilities to turn complex policyholder and claims data into financial insights enabling risk management and stable financial performance. This position works a hybrid schedule from the CNA Chicago office and offers full actuarial exam study support, flexible work options, and a focus on professional development.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of the core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts.
  • Advanced actuarial and financial expertise and product-specific knowledge.

  • Experience working in a SOX controlled environment with financial results reporting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems, including processing systems and applications.
  • Experience with ETL tools, such as SQL or Alteryx.
  • Experience with BI tools, such as Tableau, PowerBI, or Looker.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent.
  • Typically a minimum of five to seven years of related work experience.
  • Typically holds an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) credential and may be working toward Fellowship; may include candidates who have attained their FSA.

Responsibilities

  • Manages execution of monthly reserving and financial close processes performing complex actuarial calculations and collaborating with Reserving actuary team members and cross functional partners.
  • Drives the process behind the determination of reserves to support the monthly close process and annual reserve testing for the LTC block of business.
  • Owns the roadmap and cross functional execution of improving and modernizing reserving-specific data preparation workflows through adoption of industry leading tools and simplifying processes.
  • Ensures the accuracy of all financial reports and statements with adherence to SOX controls, in close collaboration with Finance peers and other Actuarial teams.
  • Produces highly technical reports and communicates with other actuarial and analytical staff and management, including presentations to senior management.
  • Facilitates communication and provides technical guidance to business partners and other functional areas, such as Claims and Finance, on actuarial issues.
  • Monitors experience and financial trends for the LTC and structured settlement segments.
  • Manages project teams and may be responsible for special projects and presentations.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced team members and may lead and/or participate in special projects.
  • Stays current in the functional area of expertise and on industry trends and developments, and ensures knowledge transfer within the organization.
