About The Position

Venerable is seeking Senior Actuarial Associates to independently lead actuarial data validation, inforce control processes, and reconciliation frameworks. This role involves designing enhanced control checks and developing solutions using advanced analytical tools. The associate will manage complex actuarial inputs for valuation, financial reporting, capital metrics, and inforce management analysis. Key responsibilities include deriving and validating actuarial assumptions, investigating anomalies, resolving data or model issues, and developing/improving analytical tools, reporting processes, and automation workflows. The role also entails implementing process improvements, redesigning actuarial templates and data structures, serving as a primary actuarial contact for auditors and stakeholders, explaining actuarial methodologies, overseeing the preparation of actuarial content for regulatory filings, and ensuring consistency across teams. The Senior Actuarial Associate will apply advanced actuarial judgment, propose solutions to technical problems, present findings to senior leaders, mentor junior associates, and review their work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance or closely related field
  • Minimum 3 years of actuarial experience
  • Completion of at least three Society of Actuaries exams towards ASA designation
  • Experience working with insurance and reinsurance products, regulatory requirements, and insurance company structure
  • Experience conducting profitability analysis, pricing, modeling, valuation, risk management, inforce management, experience studies, and hedging
  • Experience improving and optimizing actuarial processes including developing appropriate controls and automation routines
  • Experience analyzing actuarial data, identifying technical issues, and proposing solutions to complex actuarial problems
  • Experience with Excel, databases, actuarial projection tools, and valuation software to analyze data and prepare management-level outputs
  • Experience with R, VBA, and SQL to conduct data analysis, develop automation tools, and improve reporting efficiency
  • Experience documenting actuarial processes, maintaining workpapers, and ensuring compliance with internal controls
  • Experience preparing, summarizing, and presenting actuarial results to senior leadership

Responsibilities

  • Design enhanced control checks and develop solutions using advanced Excel, R, VBA, SQL, or other analytical tools.
  • Manage complex actuarial inputs for valuation, financial reporting, capital metrics, or inforce management analysis.
  • Derive and validate key actuarial assumptions and parameters, investigate anomalies, and resolve data or model issues.
  • Develop and improve analytical tools, reporting processes, and automation workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement process improvements and redesign actuarial templates and data structures used across teams.
  • Serve as a primary actuarial contact for internal and external auditors, reinsurance partners, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Explain actuarial methodologies, assumptions, and control frameworks independently.
  • Oversee preparation of actuarial content for regulatory filings, assumption updates, experience studies, and risk analysis.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy across multiple teams and review materials prepared by junior staff.
  • Apply advanced actuarial judgment to complex issues, propose solutions to technical actuarial problems, and present findings to senior leaders.
  • Mentor junior associates and review work for accuracy, methodology, and adherence to internal controls.
