About The Position

Nearmap is hiring a Senior Actuarial Analyst to support the regulatory review and use of its AI-derived data in insurance pricing. This customer-facing role will produce and defend actuarial evidence for carrier rate filings, working with Nearmap’s AI and Computer Vision teams to develop validation materials for attributes and scores used in rating. The analyst will create exhibits and memoranda for state departments of insurance, respond to regulator objections with defensible analysis, and explain methodology and results directly to regulators and customers. The role reports into Insurance Product and works alongside the regulatory affairs owner, who manages regulator relationships and submission mechanics. The analyst will partner with carrier actuarial and pricing teams, advise on filing readiness and approval risk, support data tests and lift analyses, and develop reusable filing materials and product requirements so new products and scores are filing-ready. The position is fully remote within the continental United States.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of property and casualty actuarial experience, with practical exposure to pricing, ratemaking, or rate filings.
  • Experience preparing actuarial exhibits for rate filings and responding to regulator objections.
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, economics, or a related field.
  • Ability to explain carrier-led rate filing processes clearly to non-actuaries.
  • Comfort working with predictive model outputs, including GLMs, gradient boosting, and related validation statistics.
  • Experience with large claims and exposure data using standard tools such as SQL, R, or Python.
  • Ability to write technical documentation suitable for regulators and designed to minimize rounds of objections.
  • Client-facing skills and confidence communicating with carrier actuarial leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • ACAS or FCAS credentialing is strongly preferred; candidates with substantial ratemaking and filing experience will also be considered.
  • Experience at an actuarial consultancy or carrier supporting rate filings across multiple states and carriers.
  • Experience with catastrophe or property peril models, or imagery-derived and AI-derived rating variables.
  • Prior regulator-side ratemaking review experience.
  • Familiarity with SERFF and the practical mechanics of how filings proceed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to produce filing materials for each Nearmap attribute and score used in rating, including model memoranda, validation and accuracy metrics, and actuarial exhibits.
  • Document and maintain state-by-state requirements for model validation, confidentiality, and trade secret treatment, and ensure exhibits satisfy the NAIC checklist for model filings.
  • Produce filing evidence from model outputs, including validation metrics, coverage rates, distributional analyses, bias and fairness testing, and state-level breakdowns.
  • Lead analytical responses to regulator objections in partnership with the regulatory affairs owner, and participate in calls with departments of insurance to explain methodology and results.
  • Administer Nearmap filings, including creating and maintaining SERFF accounts and keeping records of filing materials and exchanges.
  • Advise customers on which attributes are filing-ready and which may carry approval risk, and develop supporting materials for go-to-market teams and customers.
  • Partner with carrier actuarial and pricing teams on implementing Nearmap data in rating plans.
  • Collaborate with pre-sales on data tests and lift analyses that demonstrate predictive value and convert results into filing-supporting evidence.
  • Build reusable validation templates and exhibits to reduce the effort required for each new carrier program.
  • Establish product requirements for new products and scores so they are filing-ready upon release.
