About The Position

Nearmap is hiring a customer-facing Senior Actuarial Analyst to support the use of its aerial imagery, AI-driven analytics, and geospatial data in property insurance pricing. The role provides actuarial analysis and evidence for carrier rate filings, including documentation and validation materials for Nearmap attributes and scores used in rating. It works closely with Nearmap’s AI and Computer Vision team, insurance customers, and the regulatory affairs owner, who manages regulator relationships and submission mechanics. The position reports into Insurance Product and is fully remote within the continental United States. The analyst will develop and maintain filing materials, assess model performance and fairness, prepare exhibits and memos for state insurance department review, and lead analytical responses to regulator objections. The role also supports carriers in implementing Nearmap data in rating plans and helps demonstrate predictive value through data tests and lift analyses. A key objective is to create reusable filing resources and establish requirements so that new Nearmap products and scores are filing-ready when released.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of property and casualty actuarial experience, including exposure to pricing, ratemaking, or rate filings.
  • Experience preparing actuarial exhibits for rate filings and responding to regulator objections.
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, economics, or a related field.
  • Ability to explain carrier-led rate filing processes clearly to non-actuaries.
  • Comfort working with predictive model outputs, including GLMs, gradient boosting, and related validation statistics.
  • Experience working with large claims and exposure datasets using standard tools such as SQL, R, or Python.
  • Ability to write technical documentation suitable for regulatory review and intended to minimize rounds of objections.
  • Client-facing communication skills and the ability to work effectively with carrier actuarial leadership.
  • Intellectual honesty about what data supports, including distinguishing directional from conclusive results.
  • Ability to explain complex topics simply and work effectively with both models and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • ACAS or FCAS credentialing is strongly preferred; candidates with substantial ratemaking and filing experience will be considered.
  • Experience at an actuarial consultancy or directly at a carrier supporting rate filings across multiple states and carriers.
  • Experience with catastrophe or property peril models, or imagery-derived and AI-derived rating variables.
  • Prior regulator-side ratemaking review experience.
  • Familiarity with SERFF and the practical mechanics of how filings move.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to produce model memos, validation and accuracy metrics, and actuarial exhibits for each Nearmap attribute and score used in rating.
  • Document and maintain state-specific model validation requirements, including confidentiality and trade secret treatments, and ensure exhibits address the NAIC checklist for model filings.
  • Produce model validation metrics, coverage rates, distributional analyses, bias and fairness tests, and state-level breakdowns.
  • Lead analytical responses to regulator objections in coordination with the regulatory affairs owner, and participate in calls with departments of insurance to explain methods and results.
  • Administer Nearmap filings, including creating and maintaining SERFF accounts and retaining records of filing materials and exchanges.
  • Advise on which attributes are filing-ready and which carry approval risk, and build supporting materials for go-to-market teams and customers.
  • Partner with carrier actuarial and pricing teams on implementing Nearmap data in rating plans.
  • Collaborate with pre-sales on data tests and lift analyses that demonstrate predictive value and produce results suitable for filings.
  • Build reusable validation templates and exhibits to reduce effort for future carrier programs.
  • Establish product requirements for new products and scores so they are filing-ready upon release.
