About The Position

WithCoverage is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to join their team. This role is crucial in establishing accounting as a foundational pillar for the company's growth. The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the premium trust, building revenue recognition processes, owning the corporate books, and automating repetitive accounting tasks. The goal is to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, and to prepare the company for an audit in 2027. This is a hands-on role where the individual will shape the accounting systems and processes from the ground up.

Requirements

  • CPA with a mix of Big 4 public accounting and high-growth industry experience.
  • Knowledge of brokerage accounting, including trust funds, agency vs. direct bill, commission and return commission, and premium finance.
  • Proven ability to automate recurring work.
  • Proficiency in SQL.
  • Experience thinking of accounting books as a system, not just workbooks.
  • Experience with subledgers built in code with controls that run as tests.
  • Ability to understand the meaning of entries and identify incorrect but balancing entries.
  • Experience as a number two to a great controller, ready to take on more responsibility.
  • Willingness to take on tasks outside of the immediate lane, such as billing questions or carrier issues.
  • Familiarity with accounting tools like QuickBooks and modern billing platforms, and the ability to decide on the future accounting tech stack.

Nice To Haves

  • Will learn brokerage accounting quickly if not already familiar.

Responsibilities

  • Own the premium trust, managing eight figures a month in client money and ensuring weekly bank reconciliation down to the customer and policy level.
  • Clear the backlog of unapplied payments from carriers and establish carrier reconciliation as a controlled process.
  • Build and own the revenue recognition process, including policy, schedules, expected vs. received amounts against carrier statements, cancellations, endorsements, return commission, and flat fees.
  • Own the corporate books, including monthly close, GAAP financials, and the compliance calendar (surplus lines taxes, 1099s, state filings).
  • Automate all repetitive accounting tasks such as statement reconciliations, invoice deltas, remittance reading, unapplied cash, and refund clocks.
  • Rechart accounts, department mapping, and event attribution to provide clear insights into where money is earned and spent.
  • Prepare the company for a 2027 audit by documenting policies, ensuring evidence is dated at the source, and maintaining clean opening balances.
  • Ensure all entries are accurate and that the close process is gated on sound judgment.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation that includes equity
  • Comprehensive benefit plans for medical, dental, vision, life, and disability
  • Pre-tax accounts (FSA, HSAs, dependent care FSAs, commuter savings)
  • 401(k) provider
  • Flexible time off
  • Sick leave
  • Family and medical leave
  • Major national holidays
  • A curated in-office employee experience, designed to foster community, team connections, and innovation
  • Collaborative, transparent, and fun culture
