About The Position

The Senior Accounting Manager, reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, will be responsible for supervising accounting staff and managing all month-end, quarter-end and year end closing activities including journal entries, reconciliations, allocations, variance analyses, integrity validations, etc. The Accounting Manager will also ensure that LAYC meets all Uniform Guidance and grant compliance requirements and prepare all grant-related schedules for the annual financial statement and Uniform Guidance audits.

The Senior Accounting Manger will also review invoicing to ensure that the financial data reconciles to the LAYC accounting system before submission. He/she will work closely with program directors and their staff, not only to educate them regarding Uniform Guidance and grant compliance requirements, but to assist them with budget to actual analysis and budgeting. The Accounting Manger will be expected to represent LAYC at meetings with funders.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting or equivalent required; CPA and/or CMA preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of US GAAP is required.
• Proficiency with Intacct and Martus a plus.
• Strong understanding and experience with Uniform Guidance principles and a track record that includes Federal award rules and regulations, cost tracking, and audit processes is required.
• Experience working in non-profit organizations is preferred, 501(c) (3) organizations is a strong plus;
• Excellent proficiency in Excel is required with the ability to create and maintain complex spreadsheets.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and proficiency in performing complex reconciliations is required.
• Ability to design and prepare clear and effective grant financial reports
• Strong writing, communication and interpersonal skills are required
• Local travel as needed, including to the various LAYC sites in the DMV area.
• Work hours will vary depending on program schedules, project deadlines, and the needs of the organization.
• Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.

Responsibilities

• Assist CFO with development of annual budget and financial forecasts.
• Assist CFO with preparation of monthly financial reports for Executive Team, and quarterly financial reports and forecasts to be presented by CFO to the Board.
• Update and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures which conforms to the Uniform Grant Guidance for all federal grants and current Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for all other governmental and private grants.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate accounting staff.
• Manage preparation for annual audit, including interactions with auditors, preparing audit schedules and draft financial statements. Ensure timely completion of audit drafts, final audited financial statements and 990.
• Partner with other departments to ensure that business processes that include assigned activities are efficient, effective, and provide accurate, complete and timely customer service.
• In partnership with program staff, manage, review and contribute to the development of budget proposals.
• Prepare grant reports for granting agencies that meet the requirements set forth in each of the grant agreements. Reporting is required quarterly, semi-annually, or annually depending on the grant.
• Prepare internal grant financial analysis that compares actual results to both the fiscal and grant budget periods for each of LAYC’s grants monthly. Review these analyses with the applicable program managers and directors.
• Review invoices for all federal, other governmental and private grants, ensuring the financial data reconciles to LAYC’s accounting system prior to sending the invoices to the relevant grantors.
• Ensure that LAYC is meeting all Uniform Guidance and grant compliance requirements and manage the annual Uniform Guidance external audit. This will include preparing all grant-related schedules for the annual financial statement and Uniform Guidance audits.
• Review journal entries to record the various grant transactions through the general ledger.
• Reconcile and review monthly balance sheet accounts, including cash reconciliations, along with support documentation; review income statement accounts to ensure proper recording of financial transactions.
• Train program managers on their fiscal responsibilities for any grants they administer or oversee.
• Process and provide follow up on accounts receivable to maximize cash flow and minimize write-offs.
• Attend and actively participate in all external grant related meetings.
