About The Position

Agtonomy is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to build the foundation of a scalable accounting function. This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable with closing the books and improving processes. The position will be a key partner to the CFO, owning critical pieces of the close and day-to-day accounting while helping bring structure to a growing organization. This role oversees accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and analytical, with experience in creating processes from scratch and managing the monthly close process and financial forecasting. This position will report directly to the CFO and will be located in South San Francisco in a hybrid work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in financial management
  • Experience in a high-growth startup environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication and presentation skills
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Strong understanding of financial planning and analysis (FP&A)
  • Proven experience with monthly close and budgeting processes
  • Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets, NetSuite and financial tools (bill.com, expensify, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute key components of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close with a focus on accuracy and speed
  • Manage core accounting operations, including AP/AR, payroll coordination, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Take full ownership of assigned areas of the general ledger—digging in, resolving issues, and keeping things clean
  • Identify gaps in processes and proactively build better, more scalable ways of working
  • Support audits and compliance requirements with well-organized documentation and follow-through
  • Contribute to financial reporting and analysis that helps leadership make informed decisions
  • Deliver financial analysis and reporting to support leadership decision-making
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support procurement, billing, pricing and gather financial inputs to support business planning
  • Support audit processes and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
  • Drive expense reduction initiatives through detailed financial analysis, budget variance review, and process improvements across departments to improve cost discipline and forecast accuracy.
  • Jump into ad-hoc work as needed. This is a role where priorities shift and flexibility matters
