Senior Accountant

Equity Methods•Scottsdale, AZ

About The Position

Equity Methods is seeking an organized, analytical, and flexible Senior Accountant to own the firm's core accounting operations. This hands-on role on a lean, high-impact team drives the month-end close, maintains the general ledger, and produces reporting used by management and the Board. The position provides broad exposure to financial operations, including close and reconciliations, KPI and Board reporting, budgeting and forecasting, audit and tax preparation, internal controls, and periodic HR and special projects work. It requires flexibility between process execution and open-ended analysis, as well as judgment, initiative, and follow-through when work is not fully specified. The Senior Accountant owns the close cycle and general ledger integrity; prepares polished reporting and ad hoc analysis; maintains KPI and forecast data; supports annual audits and tax filings; and maintains and strengthens financial reporting controls. The role also contributes to system upgrades, AI-enablement and continuous improvement initiatives, vendor performance management, and cross-department projects. Strong performance means delivering accurate, timely work, surfacing issues early, asking clarifying questions proactively, researching unfamiliar technical questions, and improving recurring processes over time. Equity Methods serves clients ranging from early-stage and pre-IPO companies to Fortune 500 organizations, including 51 Fortune 100 firms. Its services include accounting, valuation, tax, financial reporting, and human capital management. The company has more than 200 professionals and emphasizes collaboration, professional development, and continuous improvement.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail under deadline pressure, with sound judgment about materiality and how to allocate time.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort learning accounting systems and reporting or BI tools.
  • Clear written communication, including the ability to write variance commentary that explains rather than restates the numbers.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with fluid roles, shifting priorities, and incompletely specified problems.
  • Ability to build durable working relationships and collaborate across the firm.
  • Strict discretion when handling confidential compensation, personnel, and financial information.
  • Background check required.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or active progress toward the CPA.

  • Maintain source data, trackers, and information supporting KPIs and dashboards, and improve the reporting mechanics over time.
  • Deliver supplemental reports and ad hoc analytics for client service teams by clarifying the decision or question the analysis needs to address.
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting by maintaining annual and rolling forecast models, loading actuals, and preparing variance narratives.
  • Prepare for annual audits and tax filings by assembling schedules and responding completely and promptly to auditor and tax preparer requests; improve the process year over year.
