Senior Accountant

WonoloCanada, Remote
CA$103,500 - CA$142,000Remote

About The Position

As a Senior Accountant, you will be a key partner on our accounting team, helping keep our financial operations accurate and running smoothly as the company grows. You’ll take ownership of a handful of important areas — including sales/use tax, 1099s, stock-based compensation, and reconciliations — while working closely with the team on month-end close, the financial integration of newly acquired companies, and the year-end audit. We’re looking for someone who can run their areas independently and is happy to roll up their sleeves wherever the team needs a hand. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-directed, an excellent communicator, and genuinely excited about using modern tools — including AI — to work smarter. If you thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and want to help build the finance function of a mission-driven, well-funded company, please read on! We welcome qualified candidates located anywhere in Canada #LI-Remote.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • A strong general accounting foundation with experience in account reconciliations and multi-entity environments
  • Comfortable owning complex areas independently and communicating technical accounting issues clearly to both finance and non-finance partners
  • Fluent and enthusiastic about using AI tools (e.g., Claude) to drive efficiency — this is core to how our team works and is an important requirement for the role
  • Proficient in ERP systems and quick to learn new applications
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, arrays)
  • Analytical, highly accurate, and detail-oriented, with the ability to change priorities quickly and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • A strong enthusiasm for continuous learning, process improvement, and operational efficiency

Nice To Haves

  • CPA highly preferred
  • Big 4 experience is a big plus
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as NetSuite
  • Experience working with Bill.com, Ramp, or other similar tools
  • M&A and integration experience

Responsibilities

  • Own and support key aspects of the monthly close process, including preparing journal entries, reconciliations, flux analyses, and supporting schedules, while serving as a backup across critical accounting functions as needed
  • Own stock-based compensation accounting (ASC 718) and related reporting
  • Assist with the financial integration of newly acquired companies — bringing their financial records onto our chart of accounts and ERP, establishing consistent accounting processes and controls, reconciling intercompany transactions, and supporting opening balance sheet and purchase accounting activities
  • Own monthly financing and debt-related reporting requirements
  • Assist with the year-end audit — preparing working papers and supporting schedules, and working closely with the external audit team
  • Assist with technical accounting analysis and research, including documenting positions and supporting compliance with relevant U.S. GAAP standards
  • Own sales and use tax compliance across U.S. jurisdictions — filings, taxability determinations, and coordination with Avalara/AvaTax, including resolving multi-state and customer-specific tax issues
  • Own the annual 1099 process end-to-end, including federal filing, state filing, and recipient reporting
  • Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen the close process, improve scalability, and enhance internal controls
  • Use AI tools (including Claude) to automate, audit, and accelerate reconciliations, analysis, and close workflows — identifying opportunities to improve how the team works
  • Partner cross-functionally, provide ad hoc analysis, and cross-train to back up other finance functions as needed
