The Senior Accountant is responsible for a broad range of accounting activities, including third-party reporting, cash reporting, commissions, cost of sales, international subsidiary accounting, state and local tax reporting, lease accounting, month-end close, preparation of monthly and annual audited financial statements, and other balance sheet and P&L responsibilities. This role supports a Healthcare IT SaaS business environment, with an emphasis on accurate accounting for recurring revenue, ARR-related reporting, customer contracts, subscription arrangements, deferred revenue, contract assets and liabilities, and revenue recognition considerations in accordance with GAAP and ASC 606. In addition, the Senior Accountant prepares journal entries, assists Accounts Payable with invoice coding, performs actual versus forecast analysis, and partners with department managers to understand and document variance explanations. The Senior Accountant will also support ad hoc projects, management reporting and analysis, process improvement initiatives, and other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting
  • CPA, or CPA track, highly desirable
  • Preference given to candidates with financial statement audit experience from a regional or mid-tier public accounting firm.
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles & related duties (standard financial statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reports, accrual accounting, matching principle, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of SaaS accounting concepts, including ARR, subscription revenue, deferred revenue, revenue recognition, billing schedules, contract modifications, and accounting for multi-element customer arrangements
  • Experience in Healthcare IT, SaaS, revenue cycle management, or another subscription-based technology environment is strongly preferred
  • Work experience with preparation of Financial Statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to think critically to understand how the details contribute to the big picture for reconciliations, statistical analysis, and project work.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel (Especially demonstrated advanced Excel abilities) , PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • Strong understanding of computer systems with an ability to become a systems expert regarding the accounting systems utilized.
  • Skill in time management, maximizes efficiency, and sustains a high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work well with others including senior management and team members.
  • NetSuite experience is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and reconcile multiple balance sheet accounts
  • Support accounting and reporting for recurring revenue streams, including ARR, subscription revenue, deferred revenue, contract assets, contract liabilities, renewals, amendments, and other SaaS-related contract activity
  • Review customer contracts, billing terms, implementation fees, professional services, renewals, and modifications to support appropriate revenue recognition and related accounting conclusions
  • Partner with Sales, Legal, Operations, Client Success, FP&A, and Accounting leadership to understand contract terms, revenue implications, and reporting needs within a Healthcare IT SaaS environment
  • Manage 3rd party accounting and reporting
  • State & Local tax reporting
  • Manage accounting for international subsidiaries
  • Maintain data on company leases and implement the new accounting standard
  • Work with Accounting team & other dept personnel on month & quarter-end close
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations and analysis as required
  • Work with external auditors on year-end audit
  • Assist in the preparation of Consolidated GAAP financial statements and related notes
  • Maintain good organization of accounting files and data
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, spreadsheets, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to GAAP and procedural standards
  • Work with accounting management to maintain key accounting policies & procedures
  • Preparing and analyzing ad hoc reports in NetSuite ERP system and Excel, as required
  • Become expert NetSuite user while also assisting with implementation of new NetSuite product modules as required
