This position serves as a supervisor over staff accountants aspiring to master specified areas of public accounting. As a Senior Accountant, you must be self-motivated and ambitious. You must also be organized and detail-oriented with strong time management skills and the ability to effectively balance speed and accuracy. It is also important that you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to get along well with coworkers. A senior accountant has all of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the staff accountant position, which is the foundation for accountants. Additionally, senior accountant duties include performing and documenting accounting services to include recording journal entries, general ledgers, reconciling other general ledger accounts as necessary, and preparing all types of financial statements with minimum supervision. The role requires applying basic accounting knowledge to more complex and multiple projects, improving technical skills through CPE, personal commitment, and on-the-job training, and following directions, completing tasks, and reviewing points with minimal supervision in a timely manner. It also involves reading current developments, pronouncements, and researching technical issues, identifying problem areas and client issues, and proposing solutions to managers and partners. Proficiency in computer use and firm-utilized software is expected, as is the ability to effectively wrap up engagements and identify value-added suggestions for client utilization. Further developing positive relationships with clients by fulfilling their needs timely and with quality, communicating effectively within the team and with clients in a precise, professional, and timely manner, and excelling in handling unexpected client requests, events, and prioritizing workload are also key aspects of the role. Assisting with staff development to promote efficiency on engagements, demonstrating detailed understanding of payroll, payroll taxes, and their implications on payroll tax forms, and demonstrating a strong understanding of sales tax filings and reporting are also required. The role demands appropriate knowledge of professional standards/practices and efficient use of a variety of accounting software for payroll, bookkeeping, and fixed asset management, with the ability to train others on said software. Identifying areas of technical issues, processes, and problems and proposing solutions or alternatives in various industries and entity types, and thoroughly reviewing the work of staff and providing meaningful review comments to develop staff are also essential duties.
