The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the finance team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting in a project-based construction environment. This role partners closely with the Controller, CFO, and operational leaders to provide financial insights that support decision-making, optimize project performance, and maintain compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in construction or project-based accounting environments
  • Strong understanding of job-cost accounting and revenue recognition methods
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., VISTA, HCSS, or similar) and advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CMA certification
  • Experience in an ESOP or employee-owned company
  • Familiarity with Arizona construction regulations (prevailing wage, DOT, aviation)
  • Experience with ERP systems or process improvement initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules
  • Perform job-cost accounting, variance analysis, and project profitability tracking
  • Support revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and ASC 606 (percentage-of-completion)
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations teams on cost forecasts and change order accounting
  • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), billing, and collections to support healthy cash flow
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and applicable regulations
  • Assist with external audits, tax filings, and ESOP-related accounting requirements
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance controls, and leverage accounting systems
