About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Senior Accountant to analyze and review financial data, prepare financial statements and reports. This role requires advanced application of accounting concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, and terminology, working independently. The Senior Accountant will apply applicable regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure accurate accounting practices and to recommend improvements in accounting systems. This position is part of the Finance-Contracts Reporting team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting reporting, including general financial accounting practices and principles.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements, develop reports, and present them comprehensively.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory compliance, including appropriate rules and regulations, and the ability to apply them in difficult, stressful, and complex situations.
  • Ability to interpret and explain ambiguous or unclear rules and regulations, and to direct and train others in their interpretation and application.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, including critical thinking and process improvement.
  • Ability to coach and mentor the development of problem statements, describe current states, identify root causes, create future states, and develop solutions and action plans with sustainability plans.
  • Intermediate communication skills: Clearly, effectively, and respectfully communicate to employees or customers.
  • Novice peer leadership skills: The ability to show leadership and influence people of equal rank in an effort to accomplish team goals.

  • Experience in finance and contracts reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and recommends improvements in accounting system procedures to ensure accurate application of accounting principles.
  • Analyzes, reviews, and presents information and summary reports.
  • Approves and verifies transactions and reconciles highly complex transactions and accounts.
  • Prepares complex journal and closing entries as well as general ledger accounts.
  • Formats, designs, and prepares moderate to complex financial reports and schedules.
