About The Position

Under broad supervision of the Controller, prepares and examines financial records, data and reports. This part-time role with the Accounting Division of the Finance Department is approximately 20 hours per week with a flexible Monday-Friday schedule.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience with administration of financial accounting software, preferably Munis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook.

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field and five (5) years of directly-related experience, Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field and three (3) years of directly-related experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed sufficient to perform the functions of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles financial information and prepares schedules and reports, including but not limited to financial statements, business activity reports, and reports required by regulatory agencies (including State of CT unclaimed property).
  • Prepares data and creates reports to inform the work of others, such as contributing to the annual audits (e.g., town-wide audit) and aiding with the annual budgetary process.
  • Reconciles account balances, including retiree health insurance bills, Town Payroll bank account, and Town Accounts Payable bank account.
  • Uses activity management software to record departmental activity and reconcile associated bank accounts.
  • Tracks farmland leases and payments.
  • Prepares annual GASB 87 Leases and GASB 96 Subscription-Based Information Technology Arrangements reporting.
  • Coordinates collection of related data with various Town departments.
  • Participates in the preparation of other sections of Annual Comprehensive Financial Report as needed.
  • Contributes to a respectful and safe work environment by fostering a culture of positive communication, ethical behavior and emphasis on providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Provides back-up to Account Clerk, Payroll Coordinator and Controller in preparation of month-end closing activities.
  • Provides administrative and technical support to accounting and finance personnel.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.
