About The Position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation through accurate accounting, financial reporting, budgeting support, and analytical review. This position plays a key role in maintaining compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, ensuring the integrity of financial data, and providing meaningful financial analysis to support BCRF’s decision-making. This position is based in New York, New York. BCRF currently requires staff to work onsite a minimum of three days per week.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of accounting and financial analysis experience; experience working in non-profit accounting strongly preferred
  • Proficient in Finance ERPs; experience working with Sage Intacct preferred
  • Experience in fund accounting, grant reporting and donor-restricted funds.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Mission-aligned, collaborative, and comfortable working cross-functionally.
  • Strong skills in Excel, and proficiency across the rest of the Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with BCRF monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements preparation
  • Prepare and maintain accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for Affiliates
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Monitor and record restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Assist with grant accounting, tracking expenditures, and preparing financial reports for funders.
  • Ensure proper internal controls and accounting procedures are followed.
  • Analyze financial data and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improved financial performance.
  • Prepare monthly budget-to-actual analyses and provide explanations for significant variances.
  • Assist in the development of annual operating budgets and forecasts.
  • Support leadership with financial modeling, projections, and ad hoc analyses.
  • Develop and maintain financial dashboards and management reports.
  • Assist with annual audits and coordinate requests from external auditors.
  • Support preparation of IRS Form 990 and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with donor restrictions, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in documenting and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional job-related responsibilities and ad hoc projects as assigned
