About The Position

Kilpatrick, a large international law firm, is seeking a Senior Accountant for our Finance Department in our Atlanta office, working remotely. This position will be part of our team of attorneys, paralegals and support staff providing a high level of service to both internal and external clients. This position is directly responsible for account reconciliations, including the operating cash account, accounting close responsibilities and other accounting duties as assigned. This position also addresses tight deadlines and is involved in a variety of accounting activities including assisting in the Firm’s general ledger preparation and the preparation of monthly and annual audited financial statements. The position will also have a role in various accounting process improvement projects to improve controls, efficiency and quality of accounting and reporting.

Requirements

  • Finance or Accounting related college degree required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in either an external audit or accounting position.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and delegate to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
  • Ability to analyze and assess possible problems, prioritize concerns and make decisions.
  • Ability to adapt schedule to changing work load requirements and lead by personal example.
  • Ability to interface with partners, associates, clients, vendors, directors, managers and support staff.
  • Skills to coordinate various resources to help others meet their objectives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Professional with ability to properly handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a “Big 4” accounting firm or law firm is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reconciling bank accounts, including operating and trust accounts, and resolving all reconciling items monthly.
  • Analyzes the discrepancy to determine root cause to prevent future discrepancies.
  • Coordinates with various Firm departments and Financial Services Teams to correctly post transactions and ensure accuracy.
  • Relies on in-depth understanding of firm’s chart of accounts and Financial Services procedures in order to properly identify discrepancies.
  • Responsible for entering monthly journal entries for the G/L Team.
  • Responsible for analyzing the G/L monthly to identify improper coding.
  • Review monthly P&L, investigate variances from budget. Verify that material recurring expense items have been recorded. Ensure transactions are consistently recorded across offices, departments, and accounting periods.
  • Responsible for investigating and correcting any issues.
  • Relies on in-depth understanding of firm’s chart of accounts to recognize improperly recorded transactions; i.e. P& L entry or balance sheet entry).
  • Review general ledger every month for all accounts and reclassify transactions recorded incorrectly and as approved by management.
  • Respond to general ledger inquiries forwarded from management.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements/general ledger detail and distribute them to approved personnel only.
  • Handle all non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Reconcile Elite’s trial balance to Elite’s Profit and Loss Summary and Balance sheet monthly.
  • Ensure that monthly and quarterly bank compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in preparation of year-end work papers used for review/audit by outside accounting firm.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
