About The Position

At Verrica Pharmaceuticals, we are passionate about developing and commercializing medications for the treatment of dermatological diseases, including skin cancers. Our lead product, YCANTH® (cantharidin), is the first and only healthcare professional-administered treatment approved by the FDA to treat patients two years of age and older with molluscum contagiosum – a common, highly contagious skin disease that effects an estimated six million people in the United States, primarily children. Verrica is also currently exploring a Phase 3 program to study its injectable oncolytic peptide, VP-315, for the treatment of basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer, and has initiated a global Phase 3 program to study VP-102 (YCANTH®) for the treatment of Common Warts. POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Accountant will manage a set of accounting activities to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, corporate policies, Sarbanes-Oxley and external audits. This person will manage the monthly closing of accounts and preparation of reports in support of the publicly filed financial statements and internal financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will report to and work closely with the Assistant Controller and others in the organization in analysis and reconciliation of accounts and in development, implementation and execution of accounting policies, procedures and controls. The ideal candidate possesses leadership capabilities, solid operational and technical accounting background and works proactively to drive results. This person is a self-starter, flexible, has a high level of integrity and is action and goal-oriented and enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Accounting degree required
  • 2-3 years of progressive finance/accounting experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting, controlling and finance operations
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with all levels of management within the Company
  • Excellent time management skills and superior analysis skills
  • Enthusiasm for solving problems, working collaboratively and a continuous improvement mindset

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or MBA credential preferred
  • Previous experience with a public company and pharma/biotech industry preferred
  • Working knowledge of NetSuite and Certent a plus

Responsibilities

  • Manage parts of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, prepare journal entries, account balance reconciliations and preparing financial statements and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of SEC filings, financial statements, registrations and other compliance filings ensuring financial statements are in compliance with SEC, GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in annual tax compliance, 401k audits, and other ad hoc projects on an as needed basis.
  • Manage banking activity on a weekly basis and complete reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure all equity plan activity is accurately recorded, including the fair value calculation of stock option expense and quarterly disclosure reporting.
  • Assist with the support of operational and business systems necessary to manage a commercial pharmaceutical company, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies in a SOX environment, including implementing procedures for compliance with 404B and transition to 404A requirements.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance.
  • Interact at all levels and with FP&A group to produce timely, efficient and accurate month-end close and all internal management and financial reporting through annual report to support budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Make recommendations for changes as needed and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed and establish the proper techniques to discover and prevent fraud.
