About The Position

The Buck Institute for Research on Aging is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role works closely with finance and payroll leadership to support a broad range of accounting operations. The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and quarter-end close, reconciling accounts, assisting with payroll activities, and helping ensure compliance with internal controls and applicable regulations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including work in general ledger, cash, receivables, and accounts payable
  • Experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and audit support
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and time-and-attendance systems
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and accounting controls
  • Experience working in ERP/accounting systems and advanced proficiency with Excel and related financial tools
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and follow issues through to resolution
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a nonprofit, research, academic, or federally funded environment
  • Familiarity with Federal Uniform Guidance and compliance-related accounting practices

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accounting records and transactions in accordance with GAAP, internal controls, and applicable compliance requirements.
  • Prepare journal entries, monthly accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for month-end and quarter-end close.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and support annual audits, retirement plan audits, and other audit requests.
  • Provide backup support for accounts payable and other accounting functions as needed.
  • Review corporate credit card activity, travel expenses, and employee reimbursements for compliance with policy and funding requirements.
  • Support year-end reporting, including 1099 preparation and other tax-related compliance activities.
  • Assist with preparation of schedules and supporting information for the organization’s tax filings.
  • Support semi-monthly payroll processing, including payroll preparation, manual checks, and timekeeping follow-up.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly invoices related to clinical trial activity or other designated programs.
  • Record and reconcile cash receipts across multiple banking accounts.
