About The Position

The Senior Accountant is a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting financial strategy, and ensuring smooth accounting operations. Under the guidance of the Fiscal Services Director, this role performs special audits, studies, or reviews to determine the reliability and accuracy of accounting reports and financial statements. Responsibilities include general ledger entries, reconciling bank statements, contract management, tax reporting and maintaining detailed, auditable records. The position combines a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with numbers and/or data with a high level of accuracy, including experience with data entry (e.g., spreadsheets, databases and/or enterprise systems).
  • Ability to handle a rapidly changing environment while thinking critically and adapting to systematic updates and changes.
  • Confidence in both working independently and as a team, while utilizing the ability to focus on both the details and the big picture, as each task requires.
  • Work efficiently while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and discretion related to the organization’s finances and inner workings.
  • Demonstrate initiative and commitment to contributing to the improvement of Fiscal Services’ procedures and policies as Pullman Regional Hospital continues to grow.

Responsibilities

  • General Ledger Management & Financial Reporting
  • Prepares general ledger entries by compiling and analyzing asset, liability, and capital account information.
  • Manage and reconcile complex and high-risk general ledger accounts, including cash accounts and lease accounting.
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing month-end financial statements.
  • Assume responsibility for recording bank transfers and communicating cash needs.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and accountability of capital assets and restricted donations.
  • Team Leadership & Support
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical expertise to Fiscal Specialists and Payroll for account reconciliation.
  • Lead Fiscal Specialists with generation and filing of 1099s on an annual basis.
  • Lead special financial projects or initiatives as assigned
  • Assist in the development, configuration, and maintenance of financial software systems and integrations (ex, Workday, DebtBook, WSS Contracts).
  • Participate in automation initiatives and system upgrades, including testing, and documentation.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Manage select reporting systems and tax filings such as Department of Health Databank, multi-state Workers Compensation, and Multiple Worksite quarter reports.
  • Actively assist with audit preparation, including maintaining accurate and interrelated financial records.
  • Assist in the preparation and organizing of Medicare Cost Report workpapers.
  • Conduct specialized audits for internal control reviews and executive decision making
  • Maintain and enhance professional competency regarding GASB updates and best practices in fiscal policies and procedures by actively engaging in educational activities. Such activities may include reading industry publications or attending webinars.
