About The Position

Cherry Bekaert is partnered with a mission‑driven nonprofit organization seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the daily operations of its finance department. This is an on‑site role with limited flexibility and offers the opportunity to work in a values‑based, impact‑focused environment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
5+ years of accounting experience
Strong general ledger and reconciliation experience
Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Sage Intacct
Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS)
Payroll experience (3+ years preferred)
Budgeting tools such as Martus

Responsibilities

Review and maintain documentation for grants, promises to give (PTGs), and other restricted gifts
Partner closely with Development to ensure accurate classification of donations and cash receipts
Review accounts payable coding and process weekly bill payments
Record in‑kind donations and deposit organizational cash in person
Perform monthly close activities, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all transactions
Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including: Bank accounts, credit cards, AP, prepaids, fixed assets, restricted receivables, PTGs
Prepare journal entries and schedules for: Inventory, deferred revenue, event revenue, net asset activity (restricted, board‑designated)
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls
Assist with month‑end reporting from Sage Intacct
Prepare and file IL ST‑1 sales and use tax returns
Support annual audit, Form 990 preparation, and workers’ compensation audits
Recommend process improvements and assist in fraud prevention efforts
Provide ad‑hoc reporting and analysis as needed
