Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Basic understanding of tax concepts and accounting principles.
  • Experience or familiarity with income tax preparation, including individual and business tax returns.
  • Knowledge of payroll processes and payroll tax requirements.
  • Understanding of general ledger accounting and core accounting functions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple client deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a strong commitment to accuracy and high-quality work.
  • Ability to collaborate with CPAs and team members on various client engagements.
  • Comfort working with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar client-provided systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship or professional experience in tax or accounting is preferred but not required.
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification is not required for this role.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential in academic, professional, or community settings.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and reliable follow-through.
  • Eagerness to learn, grow, and take on increasing responsibility within a public accounting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing individual and business income tax returns under the supervision of certified public accountants.
  • Work directly with CPAs on a variety of client engagements, including bookkeeping, payroll, and advisory services.
  • Provide bookkeeping and accounting services for small businesses using QuickBooks or client-provided accounting software.
  • Process payroll for clients and assist with payroll tax filings to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Manage deadlines related to income tax, payroll, and sales tax filings, ensuring all submissions are timely and accurate.
  • Communicate regularly with team members and clients to gather required information and clarify outstanding items.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and up-to-date client records and documentation.
  • Support the delivery of personalized service to small business and individual clients across the firm’s service areas.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining strong client relationships by providing responsive, reliable, and professional service.
