About The Position

The Senior Accountant is a key contributor responsible for independent owning complex general accounting activities in a fast-paced and reporting-driven environment, leading assigned components of the month-end close, performing account analysis, ensuring compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives for Leica Biosystems (LBS) in the Americas. The position supports operating company ledger accounting, ensures compliance with US GAAP and SOX requirements, exercises sound professional judgment in resolving accounting issues, and actively contributes to process standardization and efficiency initiatives. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Accounting Shared Services and is part of the finance team located in Deer Park, IL and will be an on-site role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with 5+ years of experience OR Master's degree in field with 3+ years of experience OR Doctoral degree in field with 0+ years of experience
  • Progressive accounting experience
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and internal control frameworks (SOX), with demonstrated experience applying them in a complex environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, complex formulas, lookups, financial analysis)

Nice To Haves

  • Desired software expertise: SAP, Blackline
  • CPA license or active pursuit of CPA
  • Experience in a multinational or public company environment strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Independently own and manage complex general ledger activities, including accruals, prepaids, reserves, recurring entries, and non-routine adjusting journal entries.
  • Lead assigned key components of the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to aggressive timelines, including balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Perform detailed account analysis, identify root causes of variances and trends, and clearly communicate explanations to management and cross-functional partners.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for SOX compliance activities, including control documentation, audit and testing support, and timely remediation of identified issues.
  • Identify, recommend, and lead process improvement initiatives that increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability using DBS tools such as standard work, problem solving, and root cause analysis.
