About The Position

Eastward Energy is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their Finance team. This role is crucial for full cycle accounting and reports to the Manager, Finance & Accounting. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for preparing financial statements, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting month-end and year-end close activities. The position also involves troubleshooting accounting issues, processing accounts receivable, serving as a key resource for financial reporting (JDE) and billing (SAP) systems, supporting audits, and assisting with insurance, tax, and regulatory filings. The role also includes responding to ad-hoc requests and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in accounting (degree or diploma) or equivalent related experience.
  • Minimum of five years of accounting or finance experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong experience using financial reporting and ERP systems, with JD Edwards and/or SAP considered an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and SharePoint.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy.

  • Results focused with a strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Able to analyze information, identify trends, and solve problems effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and related reporting.
  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain account reconciliations to support month-end and year-end close activities with clear documentation supporting the financial statements and audit needs.
  • Troubleshoot accounting or process related issues, perform technical analysis and interpret results.
  • Assist in processing accounts receivable.
  • Serve as the key Accounting team resource for Eastward Energy’s financial reporting (JDE) and billing (SAP) systems.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests.
  • Assist and coordinate insurance and tax filings as needed.
  • Assist with regulatory filings, compliance requirements and other finance-related projects and initiatives.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from departments across the organization and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
