About The Position

Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona, Inc. (CCS) is seeking a Senior Accountant to apply accounting principles to prepare financial reports, analyze financial data, and ensure financial compliance. This role maintains and executes a variety of financial procedures, including month-end and year-end general ledger closings and balance sheet account reconciliations. The Senior Accountant plays a key role in major annual audits. This position may be stressful at times, requiring a high demand for performance, including setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and improving processes. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting
  • Five or more years of directly related experience
  • Proven proficiency in accounting, accounting software, and Microsoft Excel
  • Proven ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks/assignments and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail
  • Proven strong oral and written communication skills that are clear, concise, and organized using appropriate style, grammar, and tone
  • Proven record of excellent customer service and teamwork
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver license, proof of insurance, and 39-month motor vehicle report
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and FBI National Criminal Records History Report (employer paid)
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen (includes marijuana, regardless of recreational use laws) (employer paid)

Nice To Haves

  • Seven or more years of directly related experience with government funding, or three or more years in public accounting
  • Experience with Financial Edge Accounting System
  • Proficient knowledge of Uniform Guidance compliance

Responsibilities

  • Follows Catholic Community Services established accounting policy and procedures.
  • Reconciles assigned balance sheet, revenue and expense accounts in accordance with the organization's accounting policy and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Prepares and maintains sub-ledgers; reconciles sub-ledgers monthly to the general ledger, including researching and resolving differences.
  • Initiates and processes journal entries into the general ledger.
  • Maintains financial procedures and confirms financial compliance.
  • Prepares and posts monthly expense allocations.
  • Prepares and posts payroll and payroll-related expenses, including reclassifying entries.
  • Prepares and maintains schedules and documentation for external auditors.
  • Provides customer service, including answering accounting questions, researching financial information, and interpreting financial data.
  • Uses accounting software to process, record, and report accounting data.
  • Prepares government grant billing as needed to support the business office team.
  • Prepares monthly financial reports for various agencies.
  • Exercises professional judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions.
  • Protects the organization's value by keeping confidential information.
  • May drive personal or agency vehicle on company business.
