About The Position

The Senior Accountant at Cozey is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening financial processes, and supporting Cozey's audit, tax, and general accounting operations. This role is crucial in a context of company growth across Canada, the United States, and Australia. The position reports to Laurent Dumouchel, Director of Finance and Accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 3 or more years of accounting experience, ideally with a combined background in a large accounting firm and industry.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite, especially Excel, and comfort with AI tools for daily analysis and documentation.
  • Knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to simplify financial jargon and collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic environment, with excellent communication and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation or CPA candidate status is a strong asset.
  • Experience with accounting software or an ERP system, preferably NetSuite.
  • Knowledge of NCECF and IFRS standards.
  • Exposure to US or Australian taxation.
  • Experience in a rapidly growing company.

Responsibilities

  • Month-end close: Manage the Month-End Close (MEC) checklist, ensuring deadlines are met and journal entries are accurate, timely, and compliant with ASPE standards.
  • General Ledger and Balance Sheet: Oversee the general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, including managing the chart of accounts, ensuring accuracy and full substantiation of all accounts.
  • Audit: Prepare necessary documentation for audits and lead year-end and interim audits, acting as the primary point of contact with external auditors.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze monthly financial results and investigate significant variances, presenting findings to the Director of Finance and CFO.
  • Expense Tracking and Budgeting: Contribute to expense tracking by improving budget monitoring practices and ensuring accuracy in budget-vs-actual comparisons. Be responsible for the departmental income statement.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize accounting processes and support the implementation of best practices.
  • Tax Compliance: Participate in tax filings, ensuring compliance with local and federal regulations in Canada, the US, and Australia. Be responsible for operationalizing transfer pricing and coordinating income tax filings with external consultants.
  • AI-driven Process Improvement: Utilize AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT/Claude) to support financial analysis, documentation, and process improvement, exercising judgment regarding data accuracy and confidentiality.
