About The Position

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including monthly reporting, journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and supporting financial analysis. This role requires strong critical thinking skills, proficiency in Excel, and the ability to contribute to ad-hoc projects and process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, complex formulas, and data modeling.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a remote environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the insurance industry is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) is a plus.
  • Experience with NetSuite, Tipalti is a plus.
  • CPA or CPA candidate is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounts payable administration.
  • Prepare and post journal entries accurately and in a timely manner to ensure the integrity of accounting information.
  • Execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing procedures, including account reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Develop and maintain timely and accurate monthly financial reports and statements for management review.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP and/or statutory accounting principles relevant to the insurance industry.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects, including system implementations, process improvements, and financial analysis as needed.
  • Utilize advanced Excel skills for data analysis, modeling, and reporting.
  • Apply critical thinking skills to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and issues.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial data and support business needs.
  • Support external audit requirements and prepare necessary schedules and documentation.
  • Stay current with accounting pronouncements and industry best practices.
  • Act as a mentor to junior staff, work autonomously, and contribute to strategic initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
