Group One, LLC & Affiliated Companies (Omni-Serv)•Union, IA
•$78,000 - $82,000•Onsite

About The Position

Group One is hiring a Senior Accountant for its finance team in Union, New Jersey. The role is intended as a career path to Controller: the CFO, who is currently acting as Controller, will introduce the successful candidate to the business deliberately and delegate Controller responsibilities over time. The goal is for the person to step into the Controller role within about four years, depending on performance and business needs. The Senior Accountant will prepare monthly closes and financial statement packages for multiple entities, maintain reconciliations and supporting workpapers, handle intercompany accounting, and manage the multi-state sales tax calendar. The role also supports fixed-asset, insurance and workers’ compensation schedules, lender reporting, and audit preparation. The employee will use AI and automation tools, including Claude, in recurring accounting workflows and document procedures so that work is repeatable and does not depend on one person. The position is full-time, salaried and exempt, and based on site at Group One’s Union, New Jersey office, Monday through Friday. Compensation is $78,000 to $82,000 per year, with placement based on experience and qualifications. The work environment is office-based and involves extended periods of computer and desk work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or in Finance with solid accounting experience.
  • Hands-on experience using AI or automation tools, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Excel macros or Power Query, to make recurring accounting work faster or easier.
  • At least two years of multi-entity monthly close experience, public accounting experience, or both.
  • Reconciliation discipline, including the ability to provide a supported workpaper that ties and explain every reconciling item.
  • Working knowledge of a cloud general ledger such as Intuit Enterprise Suite, QuickBooks Online, NetSuite or similar.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Willingness to make AI tools part of everyday work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Claude or similar AI tools.
  • Multi-state sales tax exposure.
  • Experience in the airport, facilities or staffing industry.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run AI-assisted workflows in Claude for recurring tasks, identify additional tasks to automate, and document procedures.
  • Prepare monthly closes for multiple entities and deliver P&L and balance sheet packages for Controller review, with the expectation of taking on that review over time.
  • Keep every balance sheet account reconciled and supported, with an owner and date for each open item.
  • Prepare reconciliations tied to third-party documents, including bank, line of credit and loan accounts, lease liabilities, prepaids, payroll and sales tax liabilities, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare intercompany elimination entries and run the monthly intercompany reconciliation across all entities.
  • Own the multi-state sales tax calendar, including preparing returns and payments, maintaining rate tables, and reviewing calculations prepared by an outside partner.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and insurance and workers’ compensation allocation schedules.
  • Prepare the monthly lender borrowing base and covenant package, as well as audit workpapers ahead of fieldwork.
  • Over time, become the day-to-day contact for auditors and the bank.
