About The Position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for leading the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a property management portfolio regulated by state and local funding sources. This role delivers timely, accurate financial statements, performs variance analysis, and provides performance insights for leadership. The Senior Accountant partners closely with cross-functional teams ensuring accuracy and continuous process improvement.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and reporting requirements simultaneously
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Yardi property management software preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations within established deadlines
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Analyze financial reports, including budget to actual variances, and provide clear explanations
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams in annual budget preparation
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts, tenant receivables, and security deposits
  • Track and report on restricted funds, replacement reserves, and escrow accounts
  • Communicate with stakeholders as needed on financial reporting related questions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to research and resolve financial discrepancies
  • Review work prepared by accounting team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support for professional development
  • Coordinate with external auditors and assist with audit requests
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement process improvements to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements, including MREC bank account registration
  • Onboard and offboard properties, including opening and closing bank accounts.
