Senior Accountant
About The Position
MotivHealth is an innovative health insurance company dedicated to making high-quality healthcare more affordable. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records, preparing financial reports, assisting with month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting (STAT). The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 4 + years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience using ERP
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with STAT reporting is preferred.
- Experience in NetSuite and Sage a plus.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.
- Public accounting experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP and STAT financial statements.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial transactions.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Prepare supporting schedules for internal and external STAT and GAAP audits and coordinate audit requests.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies.
- Assist with STAT regulatory reporting.
- Support process improvements by identifying opportunities to streamline accounting procedures and increase efficiency.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and financial reporting needs.
- Assist with special projects and other accounting duties as assigned.
