About The Position

UBMD is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accountant to join our finance team. In this key role, you will ensure the accuracy and integrity of UBMD’s financial reporting by maintaining general ledger accounts, managing transactions, and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You’ll collaborate across departments to support decision-making, enhance operations, and uphold the fiscal strength of one of Western New York’s leading academic medical practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience with Great Plains or similar ERP system strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including the preparation and review of journal entries and budget-to-actual reports.
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Compile and analyze financial data to assist in preparing accurate financial statements.
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts and post adjusting journal entries as needed.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for quarterly reviews and annual audits; liaise with independent auditors to provide requested information.
  • Oversee the Accounts Payable process, including invoice preparation, entry into sub-ledgers, and recording of cash receipts.
  • Maintain and update the fixed assets module in Great Plains, including asset additions/disposals and depreciation calculations.
  • Design and produce financial reports and analyses to inform operational and strategic decisions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls and workflow efficiency.
  • Provide oversight and mentorship to interns or work-study employees.
  • Contribute to special projects, business case analyses, and process improvements.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
  • Review and respond to company communications daily to ensure timely follow-up on financial or administrative matters
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller, CFO, or other members of management.
  • Occasional travel to UBMD locations may be required.
