About The Position

The Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) is seeking a thoughtful, collaborative, and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join its growing Finance team. This role involves more than traditional accounting; it offers an opportunity to improve processes, contribute fresh ideas, and help build scalable financial operations as CAC evolves. The Senior Accountant will partner with the Controller and Accounting team to support payroll, month-end close, reconciliations, and daily accounting operations. They will also act as a resource for AP and AR specialists, ensuring financial processes are accurate, efficient, and aligned with CAC's mission. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, taking ownership, and making meaningful improvements while supporting a mission-driven organization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience supporting month-end close and account reconciliations
  • Experience processing payroll
  • Strong understanding of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization
  • Experience using Sage Intacct
  • Experience with investment reconciliations
  • Experience with Rippling or similar payroll platforms
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Shopify, Avalara, or PayPal

Responsibilities

  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
  • Prepare account reconciliations and ensure financial records remain accurate and complete
  • Assist with general ledger accounting and journal entries
  • Help maintain strong internal controls and accounting best practices
  • Own payroll processing and ensure employees are paid accurately and on time
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve payroll-related questions
  • Support tax filings and payroll compliance activities
  • Work closely with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable team members
  • Review reconciliations and day-to-day accounting activity
  • Help troubleshoot issues and ensure smooth financial operations across the team
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve efficiency
  • Recommend and implement thoughtful process improvements as the Finance team evolves
  • Partner with leadership to help build scalable accounting practices for the future
