About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Comptroller, the Senior Accountant provides advanced, strategic professional support for fundamental business operations of Salisbury University (SU) and assists in ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting standards as well as university guidelines and policies. This role serves as a subject matter expert in general accounting functions and provides advisory and consulting support to the Comptroller and other stakeholders across the University. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for assisting with all general accounting activities, including but not limited to customer accounts, accounts payable, and state treasury management, while contributing to strategic financial decision-making and process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business from an accredited college or University
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in accounting or audit.
  • Must possess a high proficiency in Excel, with knowledge of advanced Excel functionalities.
  • Sound administrative skills and well-developed management skills are required.
  • Ability to thrive and prioritize in fast paced environment, with multiple deadlines and responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and other administrators.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and supervisory skills, with ability to provide oversight and coaching, and advisory guidance to all levels of staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive knowledge of financial software and related applications and integrations will help this candidate be successful.
  • Experience in higher education and/or a non-profit organization.
  • Experience in ERP system implementation highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Workday Financials highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a subject matter expert in financial systems and process optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Offering recommendations and subject matter expertise to enhance financial processes, controls, and system functionality.
