About The Position

The Senior Accountant, Property Services will be an integral part of our Property Accounting Team and responsible for the day-to-day property accounting functions in addition to overseeing and mentoring junior team members. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, detail-oriented, comfortable with a team-oriented, high volume environment, able to multi-task, and able to think critically to ensure that key processes are effectively and efficiently completed.

Requirements

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance demonstrating a strong academic record during undergraduate studies.
  • Knowledge of accounting to record accounting entries, analyze and interpret information, and make deductions from varying facts and circumstances required.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a high-volume environment preferred.
  • A motivated, detail-oriented individual with strong analytical and communication skills is required.
  • The ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment and meet challenging deadlines is critical.
  • Requires the ability to self-manage, independently exercise professional and technical judgement, problem solve and take initiative.
  • An aptitude for Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel skills required.

  • Experience with Yardi and Avid preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and oversee the accounting books and records of a property portfolio in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Manage and accurately record tenant billing and collections, accounts payable and the monthly closing process.
  • Review and prepare yearly CAM reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly portfolio wide analytics.
  • Analyze each property’s respective lease agreements for appropriate billing and compliance.
  • Oversee and manage one or more Property Accountants.
  • Support and mentor Property Accountants to master role and responsibilities.
  • Review monthly reports for each property. Includes analyzing monthly fluctuations and budget-to-actual variances and reconciling account balances to underlying supporting documentation and business activity.
  • Communicate monthly results to Asset Management and Finance Departments.
  • Prepare and review annual operating budgets for property portfolio. Includes coordination with Asset Management and Finance Departments and each property’s respective property management team for approval of operating budgets.
  • Assist external reporting team with the preparation and review of reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission and with the Internal Revenue Service. Requires coordination with auditors and tax.
  • Analyze loan agreements and coordinate with Finance Department to manage compliance with loan agreements.
  • Assist with construction management which can include, monitoring jobs for completion, approving invoices and job set-up, job close-out and working with the development team on draw requests.
