Senior Accountant – Government Contract Accounting

About The Position

Computational Physics, Inc. (CPI) is an employee-owned government contractor seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to expand our Finance team. You'll manage government contract billing and accounts receivable and provide backup support for other accounting functions. This role offers varied responsibilities, close collaboration with the team, and opportunities to improve accounting processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • At least three years of progressive accounting experience, including government contract billing and accounts receivable.
  • Working knowledge of FAR Part 31, DCAA requirements, and GAAP.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting or ERP systems.
  • Accuracy, accountability, and the ability to manage recurring deadlines.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

  • Provisional and final billing rates and contract closeouts.
  • CPP or FPC certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit monthly invoices for cost-reimbursable, time-and-materials, labor-hour, and firm-fixed-price contracts in accordance with contract terms, funding requirements, and applicable FAR/DFARS requirements.
  • Submit and track invoices through WAWF/PIEE, IPP, and customer portals, and resolve rejections and discrepancies.
  • Manage accounts receivable, including cash application, aging reviews, collections follow-up, and reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Monitor contract funding, billed and unbilled balances, and contract ceilings, and flag issues early.
  • Provide backup support for accounts payable and semi-monthly payroll following cross-training, including expense reports, vendor payments, and payroll review.
  • Review costs for allowability, allocability, and correct project coding.
  • Support month-end close, DCAA/DCMA audit requests, and incurred cost submission schedules.
  • Maintain clear documentation and desk procedures, and help improve accounting processes.
