About The Position

The Senior Accountant supports the Finance Department by recording transactions for The Bridge’s affiliate corporations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing monthly financial statements, and reconciling general ledger accounts to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting. This role requires strong accounting and analytical skills, and proficiency in leveraging technology to improve accounting processes. The Senior Accountant collaborates closely with the Finance team and departments across The Bridge to support effective financial operations and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred, with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assignments and deliver results with diligence and accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) legal entity reporting requirements and experience working with government agencies are a plus.
  • Strong aptitude for leveraging technology, systems, and workflows to improve efficiency.
  • Experience with fund accounting systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements in a timely manner for distribution to syndicators and other regulatory agencies.
  • Analyze intercompany balances between The Bridge and its affiliates to ensure the timely movement of funds between entities.
  • Review vendor invoices recorded in AvidXchange by Accounts Payable staff for accuracy, appropriate documentation, workflow compliance, and proper allocations.
  • Create payment vouchers in AvidXchange and TangiCloud for approved invoices, as needed.
  • Review monthly utility bills (e.g., Con Edison, National Grid, NYC DEP Water, Verizon, and Optimum) and record related journal entries, ensuring proper allocation to legal entities and cost centers.
  • Review for missing invoices, record accruals, and take the necessary steps to ensure timely payment processing and receipt by utility vendors.
  • Review utility bills quarterly for estimated and actual meter readings.
  • Recommend accruals when repeated estimated readings occur.
  • Coordinate with Facilities to obtain meter readings and photographs to support quarter-end accrual adjustments, when material.
  • Review rental income for accuracy.
  • Maintain an understanding of various subsidy sources and allowable rent increases.
  • Support the Affiliate Controller in tracking action items required to implement rent increases.
  • Prepare and maintain accounts receivable aging schedules and other account analyses as necessary to support the recording of allowance and bad debt reserves.
  • Record prepaid and accrued expenses and prepare other necessary journal entries for affiliate entities.
  • Prepare and post adjusting and recurring journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Prepare budget-to-actual reports and provide written variance analyses in support of the Affiliate Controller.
  • Recommend adjustments or corrections, as necessary, and record entries upon Controller approval.
  • Upload budgets for affiliate entities into TangiCloud.
  • Provide support to Finance colleagues during key reporting periods, including gathering supporting documentation for auditors.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements and prepare corresponding journal entries.
  • Maintain and update the affiliate reporting matrix.
  • Ensure work files are organized and maintained in the shared directory.
  • File and upload documents as needed.
  • Maintain the Cash Invested in Projects schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
