Position Summary The Senior Accountant contributes to the financial management and operations of the Credit Union by maintaining accounting records and generating reports in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and relevant legal regulations. Requirements

  • Knowledge of Wellby’s organizational functions and general operating policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of secretarial practices and procedures, business English, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting standards
  • Knowledge of Symitar/Jack Henry software
  • Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and compliance requirements specific to credit unions and the financial industry.
  • Knowledge of tax laws and regulations applicable to credit unions and financial institutions.
  • Skilled in MS Office, especially Excel, and ability to learn unfamiliar software.
  • Skilled in operating computer equipment and general office machines such as personal computers, copiers, projection equipment, audio/video, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Video Communications.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to problem solve and to recognize issues and deal with them directly.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to efficiently understand and follow oral and written instructions, perform routine duties without close supervision, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other team members.
  • Ability to coordinate several concurrent activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of accounting experience required.
  • Financial reporting experience
  • Proficiency in using financial software and systems
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.

  • experience with Workday/Symitar is a plus
  • Prior work in a financial institution a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepares regulatory reports including Call Report and FR2900.
  • Responsible for month end journal entries related to sub-servicer, loan participations, investments, loan provision, and accruals.
  • Performs monthly general ledger reconciliations and is responsible for research and resolution of balancing issues.
  • Prepares and distributes analyses and financial reports to management.
  • Assist with the monthly review and reporting of budget to actual, MoM, and YoY variances.
  • Assist with coordinating internal audits, annual opinion audit, and regulatory exams.
  • Maintains technical knowledge of Workday systems to assist with process improvement, system maintenance, and reporting.
  • Stays current on all accounting department processes to provide guidance to team and serve as back up as needed.
  • Attends educational workshops and training to stay knowledgeable on accounting, industry, and system updates.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
