About The Position

YWCA South Florida is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their Finance Department at their Downtown Miami Headquarters. This is a full-time, exempt position with a pay range of $60,000 to $70,000, depending on experience. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in the organization's financial operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and a forward-looking approach. This role involves partnering with Finance, Program Directors, and senior leadership to connect financial data to the organization's mission of educating children, supporting families, creating opportunities, and strengthening communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with three to five years of directly related experience, ideally within a non-profit environment, or an equivalent combination of post-graduate education and experience.
  • Hands-on professional accounting experience with cost allocation and grant compliance is required.
  • Working knowledge of word processing software.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel spreadsheet software.
  • Proficiency in financial/accounting software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution and the determination of test reliability, validity, and analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, and to independently complete the full closing cycle.
  • Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and to work with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Experienced in financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, and analysis.
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Knowledgeable about GAAP, internal controls, grant and contract compliance, and nonprofit financial operations.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to identify trends, discrepancies, and potential risks.
  • A clear and confident communicator who can build strong partnerships across departments.
  • Comfortable working independently while also being a collaborative member of the Finance team.
  • Proactive in identifying challenges and developing solutions.
  • Committed to accuracy, accountability, confidentiality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly financial close, coordinating and completing monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
  • Own the financial reporting process, including the general ledger, income statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flows, budgets, cost allocation plans, and funding-source reports.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and conduct budget-to-actual variance analysis, identifying trends, concerns, and opportunities.
  • Ensure accounting practices and financial reporting align with agency policies, GAAP, FASB, OMB requirements, grant and contract requirements, and applicable state and local regulations.
  • Oversee or perform key finance functions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, budgeting, cash management, cost allocation, and compliance activities.
  • Direct cash management activities, including cash-flow projections, bank reconciliations, fund transfers, and monitoring of organizational expenditures.
  • Partner with Program Directors and management to develop budgets, amendments, forecasts, and financial strategies.
  • Review and prepare reimbursement packages and grant-related financial reports, monitor funding requirements, and investigate disallowances.
  • Coordinate financial documentation and compliance requirements for internal and external audits.
  • Monitor internal controls, identify potential weaknesses, resolve accounting issues, and escalate concerns to the VP of Finance.
  • Review work completed by contracted finance staff, provide guidance and training, and ensure critical deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
