About The Position

At Horizon Contracting Group, we believe strong financial operations are the foundation of a strong business. We’re looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance team and help support the continued growth of our operations. Working closely with the VP of Finance and Intermediate Controller, this role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of our financial reporting, supporting month-end processes, and ensuring accuracy across multiple entities and systems. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of ASPE, GAAP, reconciliations, and month-end close processes
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation or active pursuit strongly preferred
  • construction, contracting, or project-based industries preferred
  • Spectrum experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Support monthly and quarterly close processes
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy
  • Assist with payroll backup coverage as required
  • Support reconciliations and financial reporting activities
  • Maintain fleet and equipment records within the ERP system
  • Process amortization entries and reconcile to the General Ledger
  • Manage loan and lease schedules for equipment acquisitions and disposals
  • Review invoices for proper capital vs. expense treatment
  • Complete GST/PST filings and reconciliations
  • Reconcile A/R, A/P, and intercompany accounts
  • Assist with prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and overhead reallocations
  • Identify coding discrepancies impacting cost reporting accuracy
  • Support annual reviews and audit preparation
  • Support process improvements and evolving accounting functions as the organization grows
  • Assist with future construction accounting processes including WIP schedules, holdbacks, and job costing support
