Requirements

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with technology, with a focus on Excel and Sage.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5+ years’ of accounting experience.
  • Big 4 experience.
  • Experience working in a regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full month-end close of subsidiary companies, including monthly variance analysis, monitoring of regulatory deferral accounts, preparation of monthly and annual journal entries, and reconciliation of sub-ledgers.
  • Assist with month-end close of primary companies, including preparation of revenue analysis, loan documentation, and quarterly consolidated covenant reporting.
  • Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
  • Prepare variance analyses and troubleshoot on an ad hoc basis.
  • Ensure compliance with intercompany and shared service agreements, managing cross-charges and reconciling intercompany amounts.
  • Supervise and train junior staff, including review of full-cycle AP and AR, customer and vendor inquiries, monthly bank reconciliations, GST and PST filings, and monthly journal entries.
  • Assist with annual projects, including preparation of audit working papers and memos, drafting annual consolidated financial statements, and preparation of annual budgets.
  • Analyze payroll costs and cross charges among the group of companies.
  • Submit pension and RRSP filings and remittances.
  • Own pension working papers, compliance, and communication.
  • Provide back-up for processing bi-weekly payroll for Canadian and US companies, ensuring accurate calculation and remittance of source deductions.
  • Reconcile and remit union dues and WSBC and WSIB payments.
  • Prepare regulatory work papers, schedules, and communication.
  • Follow up with regulatory bodies and implement changes from regulatory rulings.
