This position is responsible for assisting in accounting and financial reporting, reviewing department reports and documentation, and other special assignments. The Senior Accountant will assist in preparing budget documents, collaborate with the Finance Director and department directors to review and analyze budget submissions, and prepare assigned budget documents. This role also involves assisting in the maintenance of the County’s accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts receivables, accounts payable, payroll, cash management, and internal control requirements, adhering to Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) rules and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The position supervises all payroll operations, reconciles County benefits, and prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax reports. Additionally, the Senior Accountant serves as the fiscal agent for federal and state grants, monitors and analyzes grant reports, prepares financial account analysis and reconciliation, and assists staff in interpreting and implementing accounting practices, policies, and procedures. Input on financial systems functionality is also provided, along with preparing schedules for audits and assisting outside auditors. The role involves reviewing revenues and expenditures for compliance with appropriations and preparing financial reports on specific department budgets and grants. The Senior Accountant will also assist department heads and staff with financial data recording, reporting, and analysis.
