About The Position

This is an internal recruitment only open to Wake County Government Employees, temporary employees, and contractors. The Senior Accountant will provide support to the Environmental Health & Safety, On-Site Water Protection and Public Health Administration divisions. The Senior Accountant coordinates with and assists departments in their development, administration, and monitoring of financial records, budgets, and expenditures. This position also maintains, coordinates, and reviews financial records that may include budgets, expenditures, revenues, payroll and may be assigned duties related to grant funding. As the Senior Accountant you will: Collects information, reconciles accounts, and coordinates and reviews budgets, expenditures and revenues and may prepare regular financial projections as required. Reviews data collected and monitors budgets to provide accurate and timely financial information to internal departments and outside reporting agencies. Performs programs and/or account monitoring and evaluation of internal departments and/or subcontractors and recommends and installs new procedures, processes and systems. Reviews and audits source documents and recommends process improvements. May prepare and present fiscal reporting to leadership. Coordinates with internal departments for requested training and support and external reporting agencies to assess needs and requirements for fiscal monitoring and reporting. Work is performed in a hybrid environment. Candidate is expected to maintain a regular on-site presence and report to the office as required to support operational, business, and departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Four years of experience in accounting
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Ability to manipulate data and determine key drivers
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Power Point, Teams) and others

Nice To Haves

  • At least five years financial work experience in medium to large organization supporting operations through budget monitoring/forecasting and finance purchasing/invoicing/payments
  • Experienced with budgeting and accounting systems
  • Considerable knowledge of sub recipient monitoring of grants
  • Have an understanding of local government grant processes at local, state and federal levels
