About The Position

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing the financial health of a government contracting (GovCon) organization. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting strategic financial planning and analysis. This role also includes direct supervision and development of a small accounting team (2–3 staff members) and partners closely with executive leadership, including the President and CEO.

Requirements

  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including team leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a small team (2–3 direct reports).
  • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and accounting systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, A/P, A/R, payroll, and reconciliations.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling (EACs/projections).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Experience in Government Contracting (GovCon) environments.
  • Familiarity with DCAA compliance and cost accounting standards.
  • Experience supporting federal audits and regulatory reporting.
  • Prior experience working in cross-functional or multicultural teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 2–3 accounting professionals, including workload distribution, performance management, and professional development.
  • Review and approve team deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Process payroll using Paylocity and ensure accuracy of employee compensation and benefits data.
  • Maintain and manage financial records in QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of bank and general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow).
  • Manage vendor payments via ACH and wire transfers.
  • Develop and present financial reports and insights to leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and government contracting requirements.
  • Support DCAA, GSA, and IRS audits, including audit readiness and response coordination.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, including EACs (Estimates at Completion).
  • Evaluate and improve internal controls, policies, and accounting processes.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and financial anomalies.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation and audit trails.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Business Development, and Operations.
