About The Position

Houston Ballet is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting and analysis skills, a willingness to learn, and a proactive approach to process improvement. This role involves direct collaboration with teams responsible for General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Payroll (PR), Facilities, and Human Resources, and will serve as a resource for other departments across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, preferably with a concentration in accounting or finance.
  • 4+ years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a small business or non-profit setting.
  • Experience and working knowledge with general ledger transactions, including adjustments, journal entries, reclassifications, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience with the preparation of audit schedules and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong emphasis on Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in non-profit accounting/finance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct accounting system.
  • Ramp, Tessitura, and QuickBooks experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general accounting duties, ensuring the accuracy of general ledger account balances through regular review and proposing adjusting journal entries.
  • Review accounting documents for correct account codes related to specific Departments, Project IDs, and Expense Categories.
  • Review monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts to subsidiary schedules at the end of each accounting period.
  • Prepare, enter, and/or approve general ledger journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, as well as special reports.
  • Provide financial reports to department managers upon request.
  • Assist in training other staff to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Assist with other accounting duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assist with the preparation of audit schedules and responses for the annual audit.
