About The Position

The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Finance team responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, month-end closing, financial reporting, grant accounting, and audit readiness. This position performs complex accounting activities, maintains accurate financial records and supporting schedules, and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer to maintain strong internal controls and ensure timely and accurate financial information. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and capable of researching and resolving accounting discrepancies with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Ability to independently research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong accounting judgment, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned accounting functions through completion and reconciliation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Experience with accounts payable automation or expense management platforms such as Ramp.

Responsibilities

  • Perform key components of the monthly and year-end financial close process.
  • Prepare and post recurring, accrual, reclassification, allocation, and adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and research and resolve reconciling items.
  • Review general ledger activity for accuracy, proper classification, and appropriate program or funding allocation.
  • Assist with ensuring the general ledger is complete and accurate prior to monthly financial statement preparation.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations and accruals.
  • Provide accounting oversight and reconciliation support for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash activity.
  • Identify unusual transactions, variances, or accounting issues and escalate significant matters to the CFO.
  • Prepare financial reporting schedules and supporting analyses for CFO review.
  • Provide supporting documentation and analysis for management, Board, grantor, and other financial reporting as requested.
  • Ensure financial reports are supported by accurate general ledger activity and reconciled underlying schedules.
  • Maintain accounting records and supporting schedules for grants and funded programs.
  • Review expenses for proper grant, program, department, and funding-source classification.
  • Assist with grant revenue, receivable, expense, and payroll allocation reconciliations.
  • Monitor grant expenditures against approved budgets and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for annual financial and grant audits.
  • Assist with auditor requests and organize supporting documentation for CFO review.
  • Maintain accounting records and documentation in an audit-ready manner.
